Natural Look Brick Waterproofing

A-Tech Masonry & Brick Sealer is a silane/siloxane water repellent that prevents water penetration through masonry and concrete substrates according to ASTM-514 for 8% siloxane content at simulated driven rain at 62.5 mph. Any masonry substrate such as brick, or stone can be made water repellent using A-Tech Masonry & Brick Sealer.

A-Tech Masonry & Brick Sealer water repellent meets the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 244 for the reduction of chloride ion (salt) content in concrete roadways caused by wintertime deicing salt application. Sealing the brick used for pavers in patios or sidewalks reduces salt uptake and helps ensure that your own brick driveway, sidewalk will be protected from spalling caused by deicing salts.

A-Tech Masonry & Brick Sealer is a water-based emulsion of siloxane and alkylaloxysilane. It penetrates into the substrate to form a waterproof hydrophobic barrier against water penetration. Upon penetrating into the substrate of the masonry or brick, it chemically bonds and fills the pores below the surface. The masonry or brick will be waterproof and protected from spalling, staining and mold and mildew growth.

However, A-Tech Masonry & Brick Sealer is 100% breathable and allows water vapor to escape. This means that the liquid water that can be absorbed from under or behind the substrate, such as from below brick driveways or sidewalks, will not be trapped inside. This will reduce the spalling and scaling that can occur from water being trapped inside the brick substrate and freezing during cold weather.

Because A-Tech Masonry & Brick Sealer penetrates below the surface of the brick the appearance will not change. Also, the original texture, feel and traction of the surface is maintained.

100% Vapor Permeable Masonry Sealer

A-Tech Masonry & Brick Sealer is 100% breathable and allows water vapor to escape. Liquid water, especially from wind driven rains, will stay out of the brick and masonry. Water vapor from the interior of the building, or from the underside of pavers can escape. This will reduce efflorescence, spalling and scaling that can occur from water being trapped inside the brick substrate and freezing during cold weather.

Siloxane Advantages

Chemically Bonds to Substrate:

Siloxane based masonry and brick sealers that penetrate into the substrate have many advantages over surface sealers such as acrylics, silicone and epoxies. The siloxane bonds chemically to the pores inside and below the surface of brick and masonry substrates. This keeps liquid water from entering into the brick. Also, since the sealer penetrates deeply, UV rays cannot degrade the masonry sealer. The penetrating sealer is below the masonry surface so it will give a long life.

Excellent for High Traffic Areas:

Penetrating below the surface means that high traffic areas like driveways and sidewalks will not lose protection from high use. Surface sealers remain on top of the substrate and are eroded from use. Also the substrate will maintain its natural texture and sheen with a penetrating siloxane sealer.

Stopping Efflorescence:

Efflorescence is the white color that is seen on many brick and masonry buildings. This is the natural salts that are carried to the surface of the brick by water vapor inside of it. Once the water gets to the surface, the water evaporates and leaves the salts behind on the brick surface. By stopping the water from getting into and penetrating the brick, the efflorescence will be stopped.

100% Breathable:

Penetrating siloxane masonry and brick sealers also allow interior water vapor to leave the brick or masonry substrate. This is an important difference between a surface sealer and many other penetrants. A surface sealer will keep interior water vapor that needs to escape inside the brick. In a cold climate, water vapor trapped behind a surface sealer will freeze and cause the brick to spall or flake.

Invisible Natural Look Appearance:

Silane/siloxane water repellents do not stay on the substrate surface. They actually penetrate into the substrate of brick or masonry. To the viewer they are not visible. The brick and masonry will have the same appearance as if it were unsealed. No gloss, shine, sheen or film is left after curing. When a viewer touches the substrate, it will feel the same as if it were not treated.
